Mount Vernon High School presents first International Baccalaureate Art Exhibition
Artwork lined the library at Mount Vernon High School on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, as the school held its first ever International Baccalaureate (IB) Art Exhibition.
Seniors Sofia Fuentes and Alexis Outlaw displayed their work as part of their art requirement for IB, which is a rigorous program that provides students with interdisciplinary learning experiences. They are also the first students at MVHS to submit to IB for art.
IB art is a two-year course, and students worked in a variety of mediums to create their artwork. The course also can be used towards achieving an IB diploma, which students can earn by completing the six IB core subjects and other requirements.

At Mount Vernon High School, two seniors received heartfelt surprises ahead of two significant milestones —prom and graduation —thanks to the generosity of Christine Vargas-Lane. Inspired by her daughter, who was disabled in a car accident and didn't have the chance to experience these milestones, Ms. Vargas-Lane chose to honor her daughter's dreams by giving back to students who have shown resilience in the face of adversity.
The Career and Technical Education Department closed out CTE Week with the CTE and Transition Fair on Friday, hosting trade schools, colleges and organizations to share a wide range of opportunities with students.
