Mount Vernon High School Cheer qualifies for Nationals
On Sunday, December 11, 2022, the Mount Vernon High School Cheerleading Team made history by becoming the first Mount Vernon cheerleading team to qualify for Nationals. They will compete in the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship (NHSCC) at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, one of the largest cheerleading competitions in the country.

Police officers at the Mount Vernon Police Department put Mount Vernon High School students to the test during their physical education classes with the police academy physical ability examination on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. The test is designed to see if participants have what it takes to be an officer.
Students in the Academic and Career Exploration (ACE) program, a special education program in Mount Vernon, had their eyes light up smiling at their new hair, as Mount Vernon High School barbering students gave them haircuts on Friday, November 3, 2023.
United States Marine Sergeant Carl Turner visited Mount Vernon High School and met with physical education classes on Thursday, November 2, 2023. He spoke of careers with the Marines and briefly explained the other armed forces.
Culinary students at Mount Vernon High School eagerly watched as Jeanne Muchnick, Food and Dining Reporter at The Journal News/Lohud.com, gave a presentation on journalism in the restaurant industry.
For the second day of College Application Month, Mount Vernon High School hosted a representative from Buffalo State University on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. Thomas Karanas, senior assistant director in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Buffalo State University visited and informed the students about his school and the application process.
Mount Vernon High School freshmen entered an auditorium full of seniors ready to teach them the proper ways to conduct themselves around school. First, the senior class was greeted by Tiffany Izzo, assistant principal, to start the assembly on Monday, September 18, 2023.
Three out of four candidates for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme recently passed their tests and completed the requirements for their IB diplomas. Daren Lu, Lesley Iyamu and Prescilazoe Nyarko, Mount Vernon High School Class of ‘23 graduates, were awarded with the diplomas in early July.
In an early morning celebration on Friday, June 23, 2023, Mount Vernon High School students celebrated the 145th commencement. Families and friends filled the auditorium to support the 226 graduates that make up the Class of 2023.
