Students in Academic and Career Exploration Program cast votes in election

Students in the Academic and Career Exploration (ACE) Program at Mount Vernon High School visited City Hall on Friday, November 1, 2024, to cast their early votes in the 2024 General Election. The trip incorporated independent living skills that they have been learning about for the past two to three years. With teacher supervision, they walked from MVHS and caught the Beeline bus, using metro cards for the first time.

ACE Scholars have been learning about voting and the candidates in social studies. They also registered to vote on Friday, October 25.

Students demonstrated civic readiness that they have been preparing for in classes by making personal decisions on candidates and the propositions on the ballot. Once their votes were documented, they met with Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard. They caught the bus back to MVHS to close out a long day of community engagement.
