Last Wednesday, teachers in the Mount Vernon City School District participated in professional development at Superintendent’s Conference Day. Each school was given a half-day, and all teachers and staff completed an online or in-person workshop and training session.
Students completed a live empanada-making demonstration at the grand opening of the new hospitality suite at Mount Vernon High School. The newly repurposed space will allow students in the Career and Technical Education Hospitality Management Program to learn and practice hospitality skills, such as catering and event planning, and collaborate with Culinary Arts students. The suite officially opened on Monday.

Two representatives from WSMDA visited the Career and Technical Education wing at Mount Vernon High School to perform a live phlebotomy demonstration for career and health students this Tuesday.
Parent Liaisons hosted a workshop for parents and caregivers on March 20, 2025, at the Parent Resource Center in Mount Vernon STEAM Academy. Parents learned about the differences between cardiac arrest for adults versus cardiac arrest for kids. They also practiced CPR techniques.
Board Trustee Dr. Chris McDonough and Tom Scapoli, an attorney for Ingerman Smith LLP, gave a presentation about the cost of Mount Vernon’s industrial development tax abatements at the Mount Vernon Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, March 18. These abatements, called payments in lieu of taxes (PILOTs), are issued by the Mount Vernon Industrial Development Agency (MV IDA).
City of Mount Vernon Comptroller Dr. Darren Morton presented at the Mount Vernon Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, to discuss the process of tax collection, the amount of unpaid taxes owed to the Mount Vernon City School District, and the schedule for when the District will receive the fund.
