Program Description
This comprehensive program blends IT technician training with foundational and advanced cybersecurity skills to prepare students for success in post-secondary education and high-demand technology careers. As a certified Cisco Academy, students receive hands-on training in Cisco systems, including network routing, switching, and infrastructure management. The curriculum also prepares students for the industry-recognized CompTIA A+ certification. Through engaging hands-on learning labs, simulation activities, and virtual learning tools, students build practical experience in IT essentials, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), gaining the future-ready skills needed for both college advancement and high-paying careers in today’s evolving tech landscape.
Curriculum
CISCO 1: IT ESSENTIALS
1 Credit
This introductory course provides students with foundational knowledge in Information Technology, covering topics such as computer hardware, software, operating systems, and basic networking concepts. Students will engage in interactive activities, hands-on labs, and virtual simulations to build practical technical skills. As the first course in a three-part sequence, it offers students exposure to Cisco Net Academy resources and industry-relevant curriculum, preparing them for more advanced study in networking and cybersecurity.
Prerequisite: Career and Financial Management
CISCO 2: NETWORK ROUTING AND SWITCHING
2 Credits
Cisco 2: This course builds on foundational IT knowledge and introduces students to the core concepts of network routing and switching. Students will learn how data travels across networks, how routers and switches manage traffic, and how devices communicate within local and wide area networks. Through hands-on labs, simulations, and real-world scenarios, students will develop practical skills in configuring and troubleshooting basic network infrastructure. The course emphasizes applied learning, technical problem-solving, and readiness for future coursework or entry-level IT roles.
Prerequisite: Cisco 1: IT Essentials
CCNA CYBERSECURITY
2 Credits
This course introduces core cybersecurity concepts, including how to protect networks, systems, and data from cyber threats. Students will gain hands-on experience identifying risks, securing devices, and monitoring activity to ensure data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The course also explores basic artificial intelligence (AI) applications in cybersecurity, such as automated threat detection. Students will prepare for the CompTIA A+ certification, validating essential IT support and security skills.
Students will take the CompTIA Exam+ 220-1101 (Core 1) for certification.
Prerequisite: Cisco 1: IT Essentials and Cisco 2: Network Routing and Switching
